WEDNESDAY FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH

WEDNESDAY IN LOS ANGELES, TAKE A STAND FOR STEM CELLS! WHEELCHAIR DRIVERS ESPECIALLY WANTED!

Do you drive a wheelchair? Love somebody who does?

If so, or if you just believe in stem cell research, there is a Press Conference for you and me at Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles, 4650 West Sunset Blvd., 10:30, this Wednesday, October 12, 2005—can you join us?

This Wednesday, Bob Klein and supporters of stem cell research will take a stand on behalf of people with chronic disease or disability—to let Proposition 71 go forward.

As you know, lawsuits are blocking the research California overwhelmingly voted to support. Narrow but powerful groups are pushing their ideological agenda, trying to stop our hopes for cure.

This Wednesday, you can do something about it.

Wednesday, a legal document called an amicus brief (it means friend of the court) will be filed in support of Proposition 71.

Signed by some of the most notable institutions and patient advocacy organizations throughout the state and the country, the amicus brief asks the judge to DISMISS THE LAWSUITS and allow the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM)  to fund stem cell research the way we voted!

It is an enormous hassle to come to Los Angeles and take a stand.  For me personally, it will mean twelve hours on the freeway in my little blue VW with the broken door, putting up with my own company, changing the radio stations. I will drink a lot of coffee to stay awake on the long trip both ways, but I will be there, and I hope you will too.

This is an important battle in the fight, and anybody who can make it should be there.

It will be held in the Saban Research Institute, Children’s Hospital,
4650 W Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 9027-6062, please arrive before 10:30.

Please call Amy Daly at (510) 450-2418, and tell her you can make it.

P.S. If you have never met Bob Klein, the man who began Proposition 71, this is a rare opportunity. He is an amazing man, fighting with everything he has for the cause we all serve. PLUS, we are hoping for at least two SUPERSTARS. One is from Hollywood—the other is YOU—please find a way to join us, Wednesday in Los Angeles.

P.S. Again: Did you notice the word CIRM (California Institute for Regenerative Medicine)? It is pronounced like serum-- which is the medical term for medicine for cure.
